Aboard the Maharajas Express

Forget private jets and yachts, India is offering a new mode of luxury transportation: the train. Before you get a mental picture of a rickety ride, yelling conductors, and cranky businesspeople, take a look at the picture above.

The Maharajas Express features 14 carriages: five Deluxe Cabins, six Junior Suites, two regular Suites, and one Presidential Suite. All of these are equipped with large panoramic windows, so that you can take in everything on your journey across India. There are four different “Journeys” to choose from, each concentrating on a different aspect of India. You can choose from the Princely, Royal, Classical, or Celestial, according to taste. The train can also be privately chartered.

Prices begin at $800a day, not including taxes or gratuity.

Many would wonder why these well known megastars would open their homes to complete strangers.  Due to the sudden and dramatic changes in our economy, some celebrities are being forced to lend their beachfront properties for weeks at a time at a hefty fine.  Others, like Willis, just like to share their wealth.  Money may not be able to buy you love, but it certainly can buy you a taste of stardom and luxury during your vacation.

Resort staff are working around the clock to meet Diego Maradona’s high expectations and were asked to install two new top of the range bidet style toilets for his players.  Their rooms had to be repainted white, no reason was given.   The head chef was asked to ensure that there was a choice of 14 salads to accompany every meal followed by a choice of at least three desserts.  Even the pool has had to be notched up a gear to ensure that it is maintained at a constant 32°C.  And all this luxury is supposed to help Maradona and his team out wit their opponents?  Perhaps – Argentina is second in favour to win the World Cup.

There’s a new route to Sin City. A luxury locomotive, X-Train, is set to launch in 2011 and will provide a stylish commute from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and back.

X-train will feature gambling tables, a sports bar and shows for those who cannot wait to get to Vegas, or don’t want the festivities to end on the way back. The initial route is planned for five days, Thursday through Monday, and will take five and a half hours to cover the 300 mile journey.

Capella Singapore has just been recognized by Conde Nast’s hot list which honors the top 134 hotels in the world. The first Capella property in Asia, this colonial and minimalist hybrid echoes luxury and tranquility in one breath.

London’s elite property, the St. James’s Hotel and Club has just been listed for a cool $88.6 million dollars. Placed on the market by the Landesberg and Rosenberg families and currently part of the Althoff group of hotels, the building was purchased for $29.5 million dollars five years ago and has undergone extensive renovations.
