With a new surge in demand for mega yachting and added interest in angular designs and straight lines following the inception of the Maltese Falcon, Wally has gone back to its routes and veered away from its recent concentration on motor yachts to launch the Wally Otto.  The Otto is 80 feet in total and handles up to thirteen crew members which makes it more than suitable for maxi yacht racing.  With three staterooms, the yacht can also double up as a luxury charter enterprise.

UTOPIA announced the completion of successful testing of the hull and propellers for its US$1.1 billion residential ship – The UTOPIA.  The vessel will be the most luxurious ship in the world.  Its 200 residents will be able to travel to world famous cultural and sporting events in opulent style.

The Chairman of UTOPIA Mr. David Robb said “This is a technological breakthrough.  We have completed the core technical testing for this luxurious ocean liner.  The ship’s hull will be wider than hulls on most passenger vessels, which will give our residents on this ocean liner smoother sailing.  The hull was also modified to be more environmentally friendly.  As a result, we have a more fuel efficient hull and propellers that will move through the ocean more quietly and sensitively.”

The President of Samsung Heavy Industries Mr. Roh In-Sik remarked “This is a significant event in the building of UTOPIA and a significant milestone for Samsung as we further penetrate the passenger ship market internationally.  With this investment in The UTOPIA, we come closer to producing the world’s most luxurious ship.”

For several months, engineering teams from Samsung and UTOPIA worked together in Korea where Samsung owns the largest commercial hull testing facility in the world (SSMB).  The final tests have just concluded successfully.

Samsung President Mr. Roh In-Sik also remarked “Samsung selected its best engineers companywide for The UTOPIA.  There are over 70 engineers and technical personnel working on The UTOPIA.”

Overseeing the Final Hull Testing

Captain Ola Harsheim, the UTOPIA Vice President of shipbuilding commented “The successful completion of these hull tests has proven the technical viability of our ship.  These tests go way beyond any computer model or simulations because they are physical tests on water.  The completion of these tests is very exciting for our resident community.  The widening of The UTOPIA hull and the inclusion of four stabilizers make our ship unique and will maximize the comfort for our residents and guests.”

Photographs of the hull testing are available for viewing at UTOPIA’s Rodeo Drive showroom in Beverly Hills at 421 North Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, California, USA

The much anticipated Fort Lauderdale Boat Show touted as the largest international boat show in the world with over $3billion worth of mega yachts, boats and equipment on display suffered a day of heavy rain today. With just one day left, boat show organizers are hoping that buyers will not be put off by the weather. But with the economy still in recession, organizers expected buyers to be put off anyway. According the Sun Sentinal, a local newspaper, show organizers admitted to focussing on lifestyle this year as opposed to business. With heavy rain and a choppy bay alert by the coastguard, it may just be a surprise if either objectives were realized.

If your budget is under $750,000 for a yacht that is sure to turn your local marina upside down, then VanDucth might just be the answer. The 40ft speed boat boasts a small cabin that can easily seat 6 or be turned into a berth with an en suite shower room. Perhaps most impressive is the power that is generated in its twin engines generating a constant 24knots. Its carbon looks are made with composite material moulded to look like the boat has fallen from an alien civilization and its screen is designed to ensure that your passengers at the back won’t get a drop of water on their skin – even at full throttle.

The magnificent Maltese Falcon, first covered by InsideLux in 2009, is one of the world’s most recognised private yachts.   At full mast, the yacht can cross the Atlantic in an impressive 10 days – and all of that at the helm of absolute luxury.   The yacht is touring the Mediterranean at $500,000 per week.  Not bad when you compare it to super yachts in its category.

Hermes and Wally joined forces to make the widest super yacht that looks more like a floating island.  With over 3,000 square metres of spacious luxury, the yacht represents a modern mansion where panoramic sea views are present from all bedrooms.   An atrium with live plants adds  homely feel when seas get rough but perhaps the most astonishing accomplishment is the indoor 25 meter swimming pool.

The roof is covered with solar pannels that its makers suggest could save as much as 200 tonnes of disel per year.

The boat will be the first yacht that Hermes will fit out, while Wally will provide power and deal with the technicalities.
