Floating Island By Hermes

Hermes and Wally joined forces to make the widest super yacht that looks more like a floating island.  With over 3,000 square metres of spacious luxury, the yacht represents a modern mansion where panoramic sea views are present from all bedrooms.   An atrium with live plants adds  homely feel when seas get rough but perhaps the most astonishing accomplishment is the indoor 25 meter swimming pool.

The roof is covered with solar pannels that its makers suggest could save as much as 200 tonnes of disel per year.

The boat will be the first yacht that Hermes will fit out, while Wally will provide power and deal with the technicalities.

City Sailing

Posted by Danielle Baileigh On July - 18 - 2009

image City SailingLiving in the city has its ups and downs.  On the up side you have access to pretty much anything your heart could desire, and the energized atmosphere means there is always something going on, something to entertain you.  On the downside however, the constant hustle and bustle can mean that you have nowhere to truly relax.  Nowhere until now.

The new  MetroShip offers buyers the ultimate home away from home.  City slickers can now escape to the serenity of the water without leaving the luxury of their New York pad.  Designed to resemble an open loft space, the MetroShip is a houseboat like no other.  Creator, David Ballinger spent seven years working towards the now finished product which sees aluminium walls surrounding the interior of clean lines, eco-friendly furniture and the latest technology (think home cinemas, in wall speakers and the Nintendo Wii).  Perfect for the modern world.  All MetroShips are made to order in Atlanta and prices begin at $239, 000.

A New New Zealand Yacht: Bristolian

Posted by George Dew On July - 15 - 2009

Bristolian Exterior1 A New New Zealand Yacht: BristolianPhillipe Briand has designed a fantastic new yacht, in fact a superyacht. It’s known as the Bristolian, she is the largest and grandest composite sloop constructed in the whole of Oceania.

It has an almost perfect, lightweight, super-sleek sloop. It has a black hull, made from high-tech black carbon fibre. Moreover, it has a 34 tonne keel, which can reduce the length the of the draft from 5.25m to 3.8m, thus providing access to idyllic cruising areas. Though, she doesn’t lack in size, or comfort, for example there are a total of three cabins, and a massive saloon room, plus accommodation facilities for nearly half a dozen staff members.

The high-technology features continue, for example there are twin pod helm stations, providing essential navigation equipment, and providing access to the galley and the crew’s rooms, thus removing disturbance to  guests. Even, the sycamore woodwork emits a sense of luxury. Definately a yacht to remember!

Posted by George Dew On July - 12 - 2009

christina o yacht What ever happened to the Christina O?For years, the Christina O was the most famous yacht in the world. It was the ultimate floating palace. In its heyday, it was the place to be, Maria Callas fell in love with Aristotle on it, Churchill met with the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Evita Peron on it.

But over the years, the Onassis fortune fell apart, with Christina’s premature death in 1988, and Thierry’s bitter battles with the Greek Board of the Onassis foundations, the yacht fell into disuse, and lost its sparkle of glory. So, what did happen to it?

After Christina’s death, the Onassis companies were in crisis, with no clear leader, they needed to sell of their assets. Read the rest of this entry »
