E.S Kluft & Co makes the most expensive mattress in America with a selling price of $33,000. Luxurious materials and extensive labor collaborate to sustain such a high price. 10 pounds of cashmere, in 10 layers, accompany New Zealand wool, silk and mohair. Since its birth in 2008, the company has sold 100 of these mattresses, taking 10 craftsmen 3 days to make each one. “We really want the consumer to get a better night’s sleep. When you think about it, the mattress is the most important thing in your house. You spend more time on your bed than anywhere else.” Said Earl Kluft, chief executive of E.S. Kluft. With this in mind, the brand goes even further, adding a layer of horsehair and bumping up the price to $44,000 sometime this year.
