South African jewelry company, Shimansky, unveiled a diamond covered soccer ball at this year’s World Cup. The unparalleled stunner features 3,500 carats of round brilliant cut diamonds and is valued at about 2.6 million.
The life-sized soccer ball took over two years to complete and was announced this past Thursday in Capetown before the match between South Africa and Mexico. Weighing in at about 5 lbs, seven crystal replicas have been made and will be displayed at their stores throughout Capetown during the World Cup.
Yair Shimansky, the chief executive, is currently in talks with two European soccer clubs to purchase the piece in honor of the 2010 World Cup.
