The beautiful Australian gemstone, the opal has recently been in the limelight, featuring in the first luxury Opal Jewellery Brand that the industry has ever seen. Created by Australian native Katherine Jetter to commemorate the natural landscapes of her birthplace, the Daintree Rainforest Collection spotlights a gem rarely seen in luxury jewellery designs today.
Despite first originating from ancient mines in Czechoslovakia, 96% of the world’s opals are currently mined a distributed from Australia, where the stone have become somewhat of a representative. The stones have a wide range of spectacular colours from black, blue, green, red, pink, white and crystal, creating a versatile elegance of background hues. Since the discovery of the gem, opal has been coveted and sought-out by the world’s most powerful and influential icons: the stone is favoured by Queen Elizabeth and Napoleon gave a large, red opal called “The Burning of Troy” to his empress, Josephine. Jetter’s unusual and distinctive collection takes it’s inspiration from the exotic flowers and lush greenery of the Daintree Rainforest in Australia, using the purest opals sculpted to an intricate level which showcases the individual hues and flashes of colour that these gems possess.

All the designs are available in sterling silver or can be made according to taste in 18K white or yellow gold. In addition to the stunning opals of this new collection, Jetter also uses dramatic green Tsavorites, red rubies, aquamarine briolettes and more high-quality stones as accents in her pieces. Thanks to Katherine Jetter’s spectacular designs the opal has reached new levels of luxury and we can enjoy this stone just as royalty did.
