In the spirit of the BBC’s Hunter S. Thompson Documentary that was shown last night (26.07.09) narrated by Jonny Depp this post is a showcase of Ralph Steadman’s work. All of these limited edtion prints are available to buy, so for your very own slice of Gonzo style vist Ralph’s website.
Ralph is the man behind the illustrations in the original and now infamous Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas book written by the legendary, eccentric writer Hunter S Thompson. He also drew many cartoons to go along with Hunter’s gonzo journalism pieces in The Rolling Stone Magazine and others.
This is titled Savage Journey To The Heart Of The American Dream, it’s part of a limited release of 250 silk screen prints and is priced at $600. It’s also signed and numbered in pencil by Ralph Steadman himself.
This next piece is a light-hearted poke at the much revered William Shakespeare. It’s one of 50 prints and costs $2400.
Lastly is The Intimate Art Series, a beautiful collection of 12 silk screen printed pictures. Ralph has this to say about them “Rembrandt did them. Georg GROSZ did them. Picasso did them tirelessly. Even Andrew Wyeth did them. At the root of all Fine Art is sex — fine and uninterrupted.” He Continues “If you are a stud you are advised to buy the set for $4000.”
