Shabby Chic: GTbyCITROËN

Posted by Nancy Fingley On July - 14 - 2009

gtbycitroen Shabby Chic: GTbyCITROËNThe idea is simple; start by creating one of the most fascinatingly agile videogames in history, proceed by releasing a new version every 3-4 years and follow that success with breathtaking visual design and feel and you’ll have a fanbase the size of France. When you get cocky enough, start designing new cars for the game that don’t exist in the real world, from manufacturers  that do. You know you have enough clout when one is actually put into production.

Polyphony is Sony’s digital inhouse design studio responsible for the massive hit Gran Turismo , currently in its 5th iteration on the Playstation console, and the ones collaborating with Citroën to bring the GTbyCITROËN to life. What is mind-bending here is that the initiative didn’t come from Citroën. That a bunch of Japanese digital creators made a vanguard design for a videogame that has actually come to life and will be produced in very limited numbers.

Information from Citrën is that the GT will be made into 6 real life cars and the price will land around the BNP of any Micronesia country. With its extreme and sleek design the GTbyCITROËN looks fast even standing still and the interior is reminiscent of racing cars offering a “refined racing experience” with copper, steel and black leather covering the coupé.
Let this be the start of an era where more car manufacturers actually step outside their little cubicles giving people what they really want. Who said nothing good would come of videogames?
