Forget your usual champagne and caviar, last night, the Soho Mews in downtown Manhattan saw fashion a-lister’s getting comfortable on the floor with a beer in their hand. The reason for this alien behaviour? A Magazine #9 - curated by Proenza Schouler was in town to celebrate the launch of the new issue.
A Magazine is a biannual publication that allows a different designer to curate each issue granting them the creative freedom to express their thoughts and ideas on not only fashion, but what inspires them in their daily lives. It is a much more personal approach to editing and sees each issue have its own unique angle.
Predecessors of the magazine include the likes of Yohji Yamamoto and Ricardo Tisci and this time sees American design duo, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez a.k.a Proenza Schouler, take the role as editor. It also sees them taking full advantage of the fact they are the first American curators of A Magazine. The ‘God Bless America’ theme that ran throughout the issue and the launch (think lobster rolls and beer chilling in buckets) features American style icon, Chloe Sevigny, in a stars and stripes tribute.
