Women have Fendi fur coats, Hermes alligator birkin bags, and soon enough- Jean Paul Gautier crocodile overalls. Problem: men are missing all the fun when it comes to sporting exotic prints and fabrics.
But not anymore. Thanks to Louis Vuitton’s newest men’s collection for Autumn/Winter 2009/10, men will be more than just men come winter. They will be able to transform themselves with, as men’s design director Paul Helbers describes it, the “travelling wardrobe of an African king.”
And he isn’t kidding. The collection doesn’t hold back on anything, least of all luxury. Mink coats, antelope leather, and most surprisingly- the ultimate high-luxe piece- an officer’s tunic-style jacket varnished in high quality, dark tan alligator skin with gold, vintage style buttons and epaulettes.
Not only does LV’s collection perfectly encapsulate that entire safari feel, but it also heads off the new military look that other designers like D&G, Burberry, and John Galliano are re-vamping for the coming autumn. Louis Vuitton, however, gives it a wild and expensive makeover, definitely not suitable for those shy about flaunting pride and price on their backs.
Right now you can indulge in Hermes’ $150,000 alligator pea coat and Ferragamo’s $250,000 alligator trench coat, but rumour has it that LV’s stunning exotic officer jacket will range somewhere between $50,000-$75,000. Luxury has never been so affordable.
